François Vautier

After studying plastic arts, François Vautier became a contemporary art broker. He then turned to audiovisual design and worked for Arte with Guy Saguez. Together, they continue a long collaboration for television channels. He founded a collective with Raphaël Nadjari with whom he created numerous skins (France 2, France 3, TF1, La Cinquième, ARTE, Universal...). They supervise the artistic direction of the program “La Marche du Siècle”. Then in 2000, he switched to feature films by directing a thriller for ARTE: “LE P'TIT BLEU “(90', with Etienne Chicot, Roland Blanche, Robert Kramer, screenplay by Raphaël Nadjari, produced by Filmaker). A dark look at the destiny of a man who must deliver to his son the heavy heritage of the “environment”. His passion for images led him to continue his research in Audiovisual Design. He developed new filming processes in a virtual studio (Arte's “Forum of Europeans “, 2001, The evening of the presidential elections on France 2 in 2002, etc.).

At the same time, he designed a large number of costumes for Arte's theme evenings. “DÉJA VU,” an anticipation film made in 2006, is his second feature film (90', starring Alex Descas and François Caron, written by Jean Pol Fargeau). Through the eyes of a teenager, he plunges us into a futuristic fable where the real meets the virtual. While continuing his activities as a designer for advertising, he extended the exploration of “parallel worlds” with “TWENTY SHOW”, a 90-minute documentary film co-directed with Godefroy Fouray for ARTE, produced by Bruno Nahon in 2009. *Special mention, Vision du Réel, Nyon.

Between 2010 and 2012, he directed 3 experimental short films: “BLADE RUNNER REVISITED “(Broadcasted on Canal+), “ABANDONED PLACES “and “ANTZ IN MY SCANNER “(Broadcasted on US Network) which, after having totaled several million views on the web, will be screened at numerous festivals around the world including the Shanghai World Expo. In 2010, he directed the official film that France presented at the DAVOS International Meetings. He then collaborated with other prestigious organizations such as the National Museums or the Royal London Opera, 2012. Constantly looking for new processes, he designed the scenography of the CNES pavilion at the Paris Air Show in 2013 as well as the pre-show for the FUTUROSCOPE Planetarium in Poitiers in 2014. He also collaborates with “VIRGIN “, “COCA COLA “and “KERING “and makes films about artificial retina: “PIXIUM “and “GENSIGHT”. Between 2014 and 2016, he directed clips and credits for cinema films (“E SEMBENE “by Souleymane Cissé and “L'AMI “) as well as for TV series (“PIGALLE LA NUIT “for Canal+, “SIGNATURE “for France 2, “BEYOND THE WALLS “for Arte).

Constantly looking for new processes, in 2016 he directed “I SAW THE FUTURE “, a stereoscopic VR film produced by Da Prod, presented in an official selection at the Venice Film Festival in 2017, and broadcast on the ARTE VR 360 platform and on ARTE for the 2D version. The film was distributed at more than 50 festivals around the world. In 2019, he directed “ODYSSEY 1.4.9”, a VR tribute to Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, and designed the CNES pavilion for the International Aeronautics and Space Show, in which he also presented a hologram adaptation of the movie I Saw The Future. In 2020, he directed “RECODING ENTROPIA”, selected at the Venice Biennale.
