Originally from Tokyo, Tsukamoto moved to Canada after earning an art degree in metallurgy (Toyama University), and began film studies at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, in 1997. She emigrated to Canada in 1998. After graduating from university, Tsukamoto moved to Montreal and carried out a few experimental tests. She also composes music for her movies and plays the piano.
