Born in Germany to a Turkish mother and a Romanian father, Sergio and Oliver Zaciu were raised in a multi-cultural household. In 1997 they moved to Bucharest, Romania where they spent their formative years until heading to Los Angeles to attend film school at Chapman University and USC.

In 2020 they returned to Romania to work under the guidance of their mentor, Cristian Mungiu. In 2021 they helped Cristian write R.M.N., which had its world premiere at the Cannes Official Selection in 2022.
